Swiss team starts season without Simon Ammann

Killian Peier

The Swiss team will travel to the World Cup opener in Wisla (POL) this weekend with our ski jumpers but without Simon Ammann.

Killian Peier, bronze medalist of the World Championships in Innsbruck 2019, Andreas Schuler, Gregor Deschwanen, and Dominik Peter will compete on the Adam-Malysz-hill. Four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann will start his 23rd World Cup season a week later in Ruka, Finland.

With the home World Cup in Engelberg, the first major event of the season for the Swiss team already takes place four weeks after the season opener. Berni Schoedler, head of Ski Jumping in the Swiss Ski Association, already has high hopes for this home event. When asked what headline he would like to read this winter he answered swiss-ski.ch: "Swiss ski jumpers unbeatable in Engelberg!"

The big highlight of the winter comes for Berni Schoedler at the very end of the 2019/20 season: "I'm looking forward to many cheering fans at the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica. I expect that we will have a team of four Swiss athletes there. For me personally, the Ski Flying Worlds are definitely the highlight. This is a sensational event, most of time in great weather, with an incredible atmosphere. It is a Slovenian festival at the end of the season. A top event."
