Home win for Chiara Hoelzl in the qualification in Hinzenbach

The seventh week-end of the Viessmann FIS Women Ski Jumping World Cup in Hinzenbach, (AUT) confirms the discipline is growing up, registering one of the highest number of nations and athletes competing.

Current World Cup leader, Chiara Hoelzl won at home the first qualification on Friday. She made the longest jump with 92 m on the HS90 hill, ahead of Maren Lundby from Norway (89 m) and Japanese Sara Takanashi (86.5 m).

For Hoelzl, living less than two hours from today's hill, after winning in Oberstdorf last week, she remains the best today and won the qualification. Olympic Champion Maren Lundby followed less than 2 points behind, scoring 119.5 points. She will be fighting to take back the yellow bib tomorrow with once again a close competition between the two favorites this weekend.

Japanese Sara Takanashi finished third. Current best German, Katharina Althaus, who didn’t perform as expected last weekend in home hill Oberstdorf was in great shape today and took the fourth position.

Hoelzl teammates, Eva Pinkelnig and Marita Kramer, who were both third last week in Oberstdorf finished fifth and seventh.

For the Italian Lara Malsiner, the sixth position in this qualification was her best result so far this season. Anna Odine Stroem from Norway took the eight position and Slovenian Nika Kriznar and Ema Klinec completed today’s top 10.

With 65 athletes jumping today to be part of the 40 competing tomorrow, more than a third have to wait till next event. Teams from Canada, USA and Czech Republic did unfortunately not pass the qualification. On the other hand, athlete from Finland, Korea and Kazakhstan will be there.

The first competition in Hinzenbach starts on Saturday at 2.15 pm CET, the second competition follows on Sunday at 2.30 pm CET (qualification: 1.15 pm CET).
