Nizhny Tagil remains the hill of Johann Andre Forfang. The 2018 team Olympic champion won the first qualification in Nizhny Tagil on Friday evening with a jump of 130 m and 127.3 points. He came in ahead of his teammate Daniel Andre Tande and Austria's Daniel Huber.

Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke raised the hopes of the German team in fourth and fifth. Constantin Schmid finished on a strong tenth place, Stephan Leyhe was 18th in the qualification, which was held in difficult wind conditions.

Norway's Thomas Aasen Markeng became a topic of conversation. Markeng traveled to Russia with his team, but at customs, he experienced a rude awakening. The passport of Markeng didn't have the required minimum validity and so the 19-year-old was refused entry.

And so Markeng had to return to Norway immediately to get a passport and a new visa and is currently on his way back to Nizhny Tagil. He plans to participate in Sunday's qualification. If he will still have enough energy after all this excitement remains to be seen.

Saturday's competition starts at 3:30 pm CET (9:30 LOC).
