Women's World Cup Zao: 1-2 finish for Austria
Jan 19, 2020·Ski JumpingAustria's Eva Pinkelnig won the third World Cup competition in Zao (JPN) on Sunday. Pinkelnig claimed this win ahead of her teammate Chiara Hoelzl and Norway's Maren Lundby.
With this 1-2 finish today, the Austrian women prolonged their winning streak. This victory in the third World Cup event in Zao (JPN), was already the sixth in a row for the athletes of head coach Harry Rodlauer.
All five competitions in Japan (2 x Sapporo, 3 x Zao) were won by Austrian jumpers and before that, Chiara Hoelzl won in Klingenthal. With Marita Kramer (7th) and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (9th) two other athletes of Austria were in the Top 10 in today's competition.
It was the third World Cup win for 31-year-old Pinkelnig, she took her first two wins on Friday in Zao and last weekend in Sapporo.
Maren Lundby significantly improved her performance compared to the first two days in Zao and came in third. Sara Takanashi was the best Japanese in fourth.
Katharina Althaus and Juliane Seyfarth finished fifth and sixth and so the trip to Japan ended on a positive note for the German team after they came in only sixth in yesterday's team competition.
Maren Lundby remains in the lead of the overall World Cup, but her lead over Eva Pinkelnig has narrowed down to only one point. Lundby has scored 510 points, Eva Pinkelnig 509. Chiara Hoelzl is third with 470 points.
The women's World Cup continues next weekend with two individual competitions in Rasnov (ROU).
