YOG: Individual Gold to Marco Woergoetter and Anna Shpyneva
Jan 19, 2020·Ski JumpingThe men's and women's individual competitions at the Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne were held on Sunday afternoon in the Les Tuffes Nordic Center.
The gold medal in the men's competition on the HS 90 normal hill went to Austria's Marco Woergoetter. The 17-year-old posted jumps of 91.5 m and 90 m and won the event with 257.7 points. “It’s an awesome feeling when you do a good jump. To be on the podium with your teammate is awesome,” the Tyrolean said after his success.
Mark Hafnar of Slovenia was fourth after his first jump of 91 m, then a 89 m jump in the final and a total of 247.1 points earned him silver today.
David Haagen of Austria, after the first half of the competition second behind his teammate Marco Woergoetter, took the bronze medal with two jumps of 88 m and 244.5 points. "I'm relieved, that it was enough for bronze today. It was a difficult competition and I'm happy and satisfied with the result", told Haagen.
In the women's event, Russia's Anna Shpyneva won gold with her jumps of 85 m and 84 m and 229.6 points. "This competition was very important for me. I'm very, very happy. I hope the next step will be winning a World Cup and then Beijing 2022", said Anna Shpyneva.
Josephine Pagnier of France, who was in the lead after the first round ahead of Shpyneva, ended up with the silver medal with 82 m and 79.5 m and 222.8 points. “There has been a bit of pressure, for sure. It was hard to sleep last night. This experience will help the rest of the season and my career. I learned a lot about myself", said Pagnier, who grew up not far from today's venue.
Stepanka Ptackova of the Czech Republic finished third with 80 m and 83.5 m and 214.6 points.
