The Austrian Ski Association is applying to host the FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2024 in Bad Mitterndorf. This would already be the sixth international championships on the world-renowned Ski Fyling facility in Styria. Most recently, the athletes fought for medals on the Kulm-hill in 2016.

The application process for this event was reopened after Harrachov (CZE) had to withdraw the application due to infrastructural problems. The decision, where the Championships will take place will be made by the FIS Council during its next meeting in June.

"In such challenging times, it's important to send positive signals in order to give young athletes perspectives. Ski Flying on the Kulm is one of the most spectacular sporting events with a long history, hosting the 2024 Ski Flying World Championships would add another chapter to that. For us, as organizers, it's important, that the entire region is involved and supports this great event", said Peter Schroecksnadel, president of the Austrian Ski Association.
The necessary talks with the ministry of sports and the federal state of Styria will be intensified soon.

"Major sporting events have been and still are, highlight during the course of this pandemic. They will also play an important role in way out of this crisis for the sport. There's no doubt, that hosting the 2024 Ski Flying World Championships on the Kulm, one of the largest and most traditional Ski Flying hills, would be a great chance and honor. First, it's necessary to define the frame conditions with the government of Styria. I'm looking forward to the upcoming conversations with the representatives of the Austrian Ski Association, the Styrian Ski Association, the municipality of Bad Mitterndorf, and the local organizing committee", said Christopher Drexler of the Styrian government.
