COC-M: Austrians dominate in Zakopane

Ulrich Wohlgenannt

Due to the strong wind, the first competition of the Continental Cup in Zakopane (POL) could not be held on Saturday evening as originally planned. That's why both competitions on the Wielka Krokiew took place on Sunday.

In significantly improved conditions compared to yesterday, Austria's Ulrich Wohlgenannt took his next win in the COC in the morning. The 26-year-old, who was the best in all four Continental Cup competitions in Willingen in early February, won with jumps of 138 m and 133.5 m and 266.1 points.

In this extremely tight competition on the HS 140, Manuel Fettner came in close behind his teammate and secured the 1-2 finish for Austria with 136.5 m and 131.5 m and 165.7 points.
Only 0.4 points behind Fettner, Cene Prevc of Slovenia finished third. With 134.5 m and 134 m and 265.3 points, he took a spot on the podium in five of the last seven Continental Cups he participated in.

The great team result of the Austrians was completed by Daniel Tschofenig, Markus Schiffner, and Maximilian Steiner in fourth, fifth, and tenth. The best Pole was veteran Stefan Hula in sixth, followed by Peter Prevc (SLO), Klemens Muranka (POL), and Anze Semenic (SLO).

In the second competition in Zakopane, which started after a short break, the conditions were more difficult again, but still, Urlich Wohlgenannt could extend his winning streak. With jumps of 141 m and 137.5 m and 255.8 points, he claimed the tenth win of his career in the Continental Cup.

With Markus Schiffner, who finished second with 143.5 m and 135.5 m and 253.8 points, the Austrians could celebrate their second 1-2 finish of the day.
Cene Prevc confirmed his strong shape once again and repeated his third place from earlier today with 132 m and 137 m and 238.6 points.

After his second place just a few hours ago, Manuel Fettner narrowly missed the podium this time and came in fourth, just ahead of Cene Prevc's older brother Peter, who was fifth. The best jumper of the hosting team was sixth once again, in this competition it was Maciej Kot.

The seventh place went to Matias Braaten of Norway, followed by his teammates Benjamin Oestvold, who attracted some attention with his 150 m jump in Saturday's training round, and Anders Haare. Poland's Aleksander Zniszczol tied for ninth with Haare.

Before the final two competitions of the season in two weeks in Chaikovsky (RUS), Markus Schiffner leads the overall ranking with 794 points. Ulrich Wohlgenannt (661 points) and Cene Prevc (497 points) are second and third.
