The second competition of the Continental Cup in Engelberg on Monday became a duel of Austria vs. Slovenia. In the end, an Austrian came out on top in an extremely close race on the Titlis-hill.

Maximilian Steiner, fifth yesterday, won the competition with his first jump of 135 m and the longest jump of the day of 143 and 280.1 points. The 24-year-old made it to the top of the podium again more than three years after his first COC win in August 2017. "I've not jumped over that red line in that many competitions, it was a real adrenaline rush. Jumping on this hill is a lot of fun", said Maximilian Steiner.

Only the tiniest of possible margins behind the winner, Tilen Bartol came in second. The Slovene landed at 135 m and 139.5 m, scored 280.0 points, and repeated his result from Sunday's competition. "The wind made it impossible for me to have an even better second jump, but finishing second twice in 24 hours is a good result", said Tilen Bartol.

With Manuel Fettner, who jumped on 134 m and 140 m (276.1 points), the third place also went to jumper from Austria.

Lovro Kos of Slovenia finished fourth, just ahead of the third-best Austrian today, Gregor Schlierenzauer, in fifth. Behind the two Poles Pawel Wasek (6th) and Jakub Wolny (7th), who won on Sunday in Engelberg, Daniel Tschofenig (8th), Clemens Leitner (9th), Stefan Rainer (10th), and Niklas Bachlinger (11th) completed the outstanding team result of the Austrian ski jumpers.

Veteran Noriaki Kasai of Japan the second day in Engelberg didn't go well either. The 48-year-old once again failed to qualify for the final round, this time in 35th.

Stefan Rainer now leads the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 284 points, followed by Jan Hoerl (260 points) and Jakub Wolny (259 points).

The next two COC competitions will be held in Bischofshofen (AUT) on January 16th and 17th.
