COC-M: Stefan Hula wins in Brotterode

The Polish veteran Stefan Hula won the first of two competitions of the Continental Cup in Brotterode (GER) on Saturday evening.

The 34-year-old was already in the best in the first round with 113 m, he then secured the narrow win with the longest jump of the day of 115.5 m in the final and 269.9 points. The Pole stood on top of the podium in the COC for the third time in his career today and for the first time since February 2013.

Austria's Markus Schiffner, who won both competitions last weekend in Klingenthal, was second this evening. With 113 m and 112 m and a total of 269.3 points he came in close behind Stefan Hula.
After his younger brother Ryoyu won the World Cup in Rasnov on Friday, Junshiro Kobayashi earned another podium finish for the family today. He showed jumps of 114.5 m and 112.5 m scored 265.6 points and finished third.

Sander Vossan Eriksen of Norway, tenth after the first half of the competition, had the best jump in the final and could move up to fourth overall. Together with today's winner Stefan Hula, Tomasz Pilch, Aleksander Zniszczol, and Maciej Kot in fifth, sixth, and seventh provided an outstanding team result of Poland.
Maximilian Steiner of Austria was eighth, best Slovene was Lovro Kos in ninth. The Top 10 of the day were completed by Robin Pedersen of Norway.
For the local heroes of Germany, the weekend started with a disappointing result. The two best athletes of the German team were Richard Freitag and Kilian Maerkl in 17th and 18th.

Markus Schiffner could further extend his lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup. With 619 points, he has a clear lead over Ulrich Wohlgenannt (461 points) and Stefan Rainer (405 points).
The second competition in Brotterode starts on Sunday at 10 am CET.
