COC-M: Victories for Aleksander Zniszczol and Stefan Hula
Mar 28, 2021·Ski JumpingThe competition on Saturday evening had to be canceled due to the strong wind, and so two Continental Cups were held on the large hill in Chaikovsky (RUS) on Sunday.
The first win today went to Aleksander Zniszczol of Poland. With 122.5 m, the 27-year-old was fifth after the first round, his second jump of 140.5 m earned him a total of 229.6 points and the ninth win of his career in the Continental Cup.
Manuel Fettner of Austria finished second with 125.5 m and 140 m and 225.1 points. With Stefan Hula, the third place went to another Polish jumper. The veteran scored 218.5 points with his jumps of 124.5 m and 142.5 m.
Elias Medwed, who achieved the best result of his career, Maximilian Steiner and Daniel Tschofenig in fourth, fifth, and sixth provided an outstanding team result for Austria, together with second-placed Fettner and David Haagen and Stefan Rainer in ninth and tenth.
Only the athletes of Poland could keep up with the Austrians. Maciej Kot, after the first half of the competition en route to the podium in second, and Tomasz Pilch came in seventh and eighth.
In the second competition of the day, the duel Poland vs. Austria continued, again with the slightly better end for the Polish ski jumpers as they could take two spots on the podium again.
Stefan Hula could further improve his performance after his third place earlier and won a competition in the Continental Cup for the fourth time in his career with 137 m and 131.5 m and 246.8 points.
Only 0.5 points behind the 34-year-old, Daniel Tschofenig of Austria stood on the podium for the first time in the COC with 126.5 m and 138.5 m. So far his best result was the fourth place in Zakopane two weeks ago.
The second Pole in the Top 3 was Tomasz Pilch with 130 m and 134 m and 234.1 points.
Manuel Fettne was fourth in the second competition on Sunday, followed by the winner of the first event, Aleksander Zniszczol, in fifth. Austria's David Haagen was sixth, his teammates Elias Medwed and Stefan Rainer tied for seventh.
The Top 10 were completed by Maciej Kot of Poland and Maximilian Ortner of Austria.
The overall title of the Continental Cup 2020/21 went to Austria's Markus Schiffner with 794 points, followed by his teammates Ulrich Wohlgenannt (661 points) and Manuel Fettner (566 points).
