Dawid Kubacki (POL) won this winter's second qualification in Ruka (FIN). The reigning normal hill World Champion jumped on 135.5 m (134.1 points) on the Rukantunturi-hill in Ruka and took a clear win ahead of Karl Geiger and Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud.

The qualification didn't get really exciting until the very end, the jumps of the first 50 competitors were simply too short to cause real excitement. Only the final athletes in the field were able to land jumps over the 120 m mark.

Besides the Top 3, Japan's Yukiya Sato, Piotr Zyla of Poland, and overall World Cup leader Markus Eisenbichler posted some strong jumps, just like in Wisla. Pius Paschke could also confirm his strong shape from the World Cup opener.

Austria was represented by the B-team in the qualification in Ruka, after there were various Covid-19 cases within the team. Gregor Schlierenzauer, Philipp Aschenwald, and the two coaches Andreas Widhoelzl and Robert Treitinger tested positive for Covid-19 early this week and the rest of the team is now also in quarantine. The athletes who tested negative, among them Daniel Huber, who was third in Wisla, want to compete again next weekend in Nizhny Tagil (RUS).

A Russian athlete also tested positive after the weekend in Wisla. All other members of the team tested negative and are also planning to participate in the World Cup in Nizhny Tagil if they have more negative tests over the next couple of days. The same applies to the Austrians.

The first competition in Ruka starts on Saturday at 4:30 pm CET (trial round: 3:15 pm CET).
