Jan 30, 2021·Ski JumpingNorway's Halvor Egner Granerud won the first of two World Cup competitions in Willingen on Saturday. With his jumps of 147.5 m and 145.5 m and a total of 285.5 points, he came in ahead of his teammate Daniel Andre Tande and Kamil Stoch of Poland.
This win today in Willingen was already the seventh win for Granerud this winter and with 1106 points, the 24-year-old has a clear lead over Markus Eisenbichler (828 points) and Kamil Stoch (721 points) in the overall World Cup. "My jumps today weren't perfect, but they were really good. I was also lucky with the wind conditions, that's why the margin was as big as it was. I'm really satisfied with the job I did today, maybe I could have gone a few meters farther in both jumps. My goal for this season has always been to win the overall World Cup and I'm really satisfied that I could extend the lead today after I lost points in Zakopane and Lahti", said Halvor Egner Granerud.
His teammate Daniel Andre Tande complete the 1-2 finish for Norway today in second. Granerud and Tande were also first and second in the competition in Titisee-Neustadt on January 10th. "It's amazing to be on the podium again. My jumps are getting better and better in the last couple of weeks. I was hoping that I could beat Granerud today, but I have to try again tomorrow", said Tande.
The third place went to three-time Olympic champion Kamil Stoch of Poland. Stoch said after the competition: "I'm satisfied with my performance, the podium is always a nice reward. I think I did quite a good job today, my jumps were at a really high level and so I'm happy. The conditions were a lot better than yesterday, today it was a lot more stable and the wind was not disturbing at all."
The surprise of the day was provided by Slovenia's Bor Pavlovcic in fourth. Dawid Kubacki of Poland and Norway's Marius Lindvik were fifth and sixth, Ryoyu Kobayashi finished seventh.
The best German was once again Markus Eisenbichler, who came in eighth today. "This was okay today, my shape is stable. The eighth place, another Top 10 result, is not bad, but when I see how far I'm behind the others I have to see why that is the case. My jumps are solid, not amazing, but they are okay, basically, I'm satisfied", said Eisenbichler.
Four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann of Switzerland achieved his by far best result this season in 12th. So far, Ammann hadn't scored a single World Cup point during the course of this winter, so today was finally a success and he also earned a spot on the Swiss team for the World Championships in Oberstdorf in four weeks.
After three of the six jumps. Halvor Egner Granerud leads the overall ranking of the Willingen/6, followed by Tande and Poland's Dawid Kubacki. Overall ranking Willingen/6
