Halvor Egner Granerud claims his 10th World Cup win
Feb 07, 2021·Ski JumpingNorway's Halvor Egner Granerud claimed his tenth World Cup win in Klingenthal on Sunday. Granerud prolonged his impressive winning streak and won for the fourth time in a row. The second and third place went to Slovenia's Bor Pavlovcic and Markus Eisenbichler of Germany.
"I'm already thinking about the World Cup title, it's becoming more and more likely. I try to remain focused on today and what to do next, but it's getting harder and harder to keep both feet on the ground and not get carried away. It's incredible that I can continue to extend my lead, it's unreal. Next weekend in Zakopane I want to perform well again, the last I had some problems with the inrun there, hopefully, I can fix that. I think it will be hard to win again, but you never know and I'll do my best", said Granerud, who now leads the overall World Cup with 1406 points, followed by Markus Eisenbichler (977 points).
For Bor Pavlovcic, today's second place was a career-best. After his third place yesterday, it was a perfect weekend for the Slovenian youngster. "It was a really fantastic weekend for me, especially this last jump was amazing. Now I just hope that I can have more weekends like this one. In January I was in bad shape, I think I was a bit tired from the Ski Flying World Championships in Planica. Then I had to get some rest and train at home, which takes time. I knew that I will be better in February and here I am", Pavlovcic said after his success.
Markus Eisenbichler finally made it to the podium again. "It was a really good competition for me. I tried something regarding the equipment and that worked well so I'm happy about that. This gives me more confidence and now I'm looking forward to Zakopane. I'm in solid shape, it just has to get a bit more stable again. I really enjoyed the jumps today, especially the one in the second round", Eisenbichler told after the competition.
Norway's Robert Johansson narrowly missed the podium in fourth, earlier today he could win the prologue. Japanese Yukiya Sato was fifth today, Kamil Stoch and Dawid Kubacki came in sixth and seventh for Poland.
Martin Hamann was tenth and finished in the Top 10 for the first time in his career, Jan Hoerl was the best Austrian in eleventh. Severin Freund was 21st, Karl Geiger once again failed to qualify for the final round of the Top 30, the Ski Flying World Champion was 38th.
The Ski Jumping World Cup continues next weekend in Zakopane (POL).
