The eagles are flying again - Ski Jumping Grand Prix in Wisla

Kamil Stoch

It's been about six months since the Ski Jumping World Cup season ended so abruptly in Trondheim (NOR), now it was time for the first day of the FIS Grand Prix 2020 in Wisla (POL). The ski jumpers are back competing and obviously enjoyed that first day after the long break.

And so the win of three-time Olympic champion Kamil Stoch was not even the highlight of the day.
The competition itself in front of the few spectators, who were allowed to attend the event at the Adam-Malysz-hill in Wisla, was the highlight. "We are here now and we are extremely happy about this competition weekend here in Poland", said the new Race Director Sandro Pertile of Italy, for whom this is the first event in this position.

"It is great that we can finally compete again. We have been training very well in the past few weeks, but competing with the other athletes is obviously something else, it's a totally different feeling", explained today's winner Kamil Stoch.
Stoch (133.5 m; 139.5 points) won the prologue, and the trophy sponsored by the Polish TV TVP, clearly ahead of his teammate Dawid Kubacki (131 m; 135.2 points) and Austria's Philipp Aschenwald (126.5 m; 126.7 points).

The field consisted of only 46 athletes and so a qualification was not necessary, some teams couldn't travel to Poland due to the current restrictions.

The two Grand Prix competitions in Wisla will take place on Saturday and Sunday at 5:30 pm CET.
