Five months after the sudden end of the 2019/20 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the canceled World Cup final, Karl Geiger now received the awards for his top performances last winter.

Sven Hannawald now presented the 27-year-old with the award for the second place in the overall World Cup in his hometown of Oberstdorf. The German team around Karl Geiger and head coach Stefan Horngacher received the trophy for their win in the Nations Cup.

"This second place that I was in extremely good shape and that I was consistent in every competition. I had a lot of really good competitions, but there were also some in which I was struggling", said Karl Geiger, who now wants to confirm this result together with his teammates next season. "We have a good team and, especially at the World Championships at home, we want to be confident and prove that we are in strong shape and able to show good performances."

Hills in Oberstdorf ready for training again
Not only the athletes have already set their sights on the World Championships in Oberstdorf 2021, the preparations at the venue are also in full swing already. Local hero Katharina Althaus could recently make the first jump on the large hill in Oberstdorf after more than a year of reconstruction work in the Audi Arena.

But not only top athletes like the Oberstdorf-natives Althaus and Karl Geiger can now enjoy the very good training conditions on their home hills again, there's also something for the younger jumpers. The future stars can now train on the new HS 25 and HS 42 hills.

"After such a long construction phase we are now happy that all five hills in the arena are now finally ready for training again. Everyone involved gave their all to complete this project and we have to thank all of them. With this modernized facility, Oberstdorf is not only ready for the World Championships 2021, but it is now also a training center for young jumpers as well as World and Olympic champions in the upcoming years", said Florian Stern, CEO of the Audi Arena.
