Olympic champion Maren Lundby won the first women's competition on the large hill at World Championships. After jumps of 128 m and 130.5 m, Lundby came in ahead of Sara Takanashi of Japan and Slovenia's Nika Kriznar.

Women's Ski Jumping conquered the large hills. The women have already been competing on large hills in the World Cup since 2013, now there's also a women's World Champion on the large hill. And the first-ever women's World Champion is Maren Lundby from Norway. The 26-year-old, who hasn't been in her usual strong shape so far during the course of this season, is now in top shape right in time at these championships. After the surprising silver medal on the normal hill and silver and bronze with the Norwegian team, Lundby now claimed this historic gold medal.

"I'm more than happy and honestly also surprised after it didn't go that well for me so far this winter. This is an extremely important success for me and also a milestone for women's Ski Jumping", Lundby said after her win. Lundby is the most successful female ski jumper at the World Championships in Oberstdorf, she won a medal in every competition she took part in.

Sara Takanashi took silver today and secured her second individual medal at the World Championships, the record World Cup winner (60 wins) has already won bronze on the normal hill. The third place in this exciting competition on the large hill went to Slovenia's Nika Kriznar.

Like in the normal hill competition, top favorite Marita Kramer finished fourth again today. "I now feel a bit empty inside. When you're in the air and you see the green line, then you know what's going on. Finishing fourth is tough, but life goes on", the 19-year-old said in an interview with Austrian TV. "We won medals, you can't forget that. I lost some ground today, winning a medal was my goal and my dream. Now I'm focussing on the next competitions." Kramer won gold with the Austrian women's team and bronze with the mixed team.

Silje Opseth (NOR) and Ema Klinec (SLO) posted jumps of 138 m and 139.5 m in the final round and forced the jury to lower the gate twice for the final 10 competitors. Opseth finished fifth, Klinec sixth. Juliane Seyfarth confirmed her upward trend in tenth, Katharina Althaus was 12th.

This was the final women's competition at the World Championships in Oberstdorf. The women are now getting ready for the final World Cup competitions in Russia, the Blue Bird Tour. This Tour starts on March 20th in Nizhny Tagil, after five competitions it ends on March 28th in Chaikovsky.
