Nika Kriznar wins in Rasnov and takes overall lead
Feb 18, 2021·Ski JumpingSlovenia's Nika Kriznar won the first of two individual women's World Cups in Rasnov (ROU) on Thursday. Kriznar came in ahead of Japan's Sara Takanashi and Silje Opseth of Norway.
Nika Kriznar is the new overall leader of the women's World Cup. The 20-year-old Slovene won the competition in Rasnov with jumps of 92 m and 91 m (235.7 points), followed by Japan's Sara Takanashi (88 m and 93.5 m; 232.9 points). "Today I had two very good jumps, even though the conditions weren't easy. I saw that some of the jumpers had problems. Wearing the yellow bib now is a dream come true for me, somethings this happens", Kriznar said after her success.
With her win today, Kriznar took the overall lead with 551 points, Austria's Marita Kramer was not competing today. *
Second-placed Sara Takanashi is now also ahead of Kramer in the overall World Cup with her 526 points. Takanashi said: "I'm very satisfied today, the conditions were difficult, but it didn't distract me. I managed to remain focused on my jumps and my technique."
The third place went to Silje Opseth of Norway. It was already her seventh podium, but she still has to wait for her first win. "It's nice to be here in Rasnov again. It was pretty windy today and I was struggling with the conditions a bit, but my jumps were good. I have the feeling that my shape is getting better and better, we'll see how it goes in the future."
The best Austrian was Daniela Iraschko-Stolz in fourth, Maren Lundby finished sixth. In absence of the German team for the upcoming World Championships, Anna Rupprecht was the best German today in 16th. The new Junior World Champion, Thea Minyan Bjoerseth of Norway, was second after the first round and came in eighth today.
Austria's Eva Pinkelnig made a strong comeback today after her serious crash. She finished seventh and has a good chance to compete in the World Championships in Oberstdorf next week.
* The leader of the women's overall World Cup, Austria's Marita Kramer, is in Rasnov, but could not take part in Thursday's competition. The 19-year-old traveled to Rasnov with an invalid Covid-19 test, this test was not accepted by the local authorities and that's why she had to take another test. The result of this test is expected later today, if it will be negative, Kramer will be able to take part in Friday's qualification.
The second women's competition in Rasnov is held on Friday (10:30 am CET), a mixed team competition follows on Saturday (9:45 am CET).
