Markus Eisenbichler

Markus Eisenbichler had a perfect start at the Nordic World Championships in Oberstdorf.
It was a great opening day of the WSC for the Bavarian with the best jumps in both training rounds (104.5 m and 101.5 m) and with this performance he also raised the hopes for the German team. Besides Eisenbichler, the Norwegians Robert Johansson and Marius Lindvik, and Slovenia's Anze Lanisek showed especially convincing performances.

Eisenbichler all of a sudden the top favorite
"In my jumps today I did what I was talking about with the coaches. It has been getting better and better for me over the past few days. This was already the case last weekend in Rasnov, even though it didn't look like that. I'm feeling fine and I like this hill here in Oberstdorf a lot, it's my home hill and I'm jumping here very often", Eisenbichler said after the first training session.

In bright sunshine and springlike temperatures of about 17°C, the first training on the HS 106 hill in Oberstdorf was more like a  first test for the athletes.
World Cup leader Halvor Egner Granerud was jumping as stable as usual and was among the best of the 78 competitors, Marius Lindvik and the two Slovenes Bor Pavlovcic are also among the favorites.
Strong performances today were also shown by four-time Olympic champion Simon Ammann of Switzerland, Kamil Stoch, and defending champion Dawid Kubacki

There will be another training session tomorrow (7 pm CET, three rounds), followed by the qualification for the normal hill competition on Friday (8:30 pm CET).
