Polish team cleared to compete in Oberstdorf
Dec 29, 2020·Ski JumpingThe Polish ski jumpers are allowed to compete again in the 69th Four Hills Tournament with immediate effect, the health authorities informed the organizers early Tuesday morning.
Decisive for the decision was a double negative test result of the athlete Klemens Muranka, who tested positive upon arrival, as well as the entire Polish team.
"After a critical appraisal of all circumstances, PCR tests of all team members were carried out again in the evening of December 28, 2020. With the presence of all negative findings, the Polish national team is thus immediately released again from an official point of view. The health authorities are in contact with the team and have advised them on sensible and necessary protective measures. The affected persons will personally receive certificates on the ordered quarantine period," announced Ludwig Walters, MD. Medical Director of the Health Office Oberallgäu informed the organizers.
Since the Polish team could not participate in yesterday's qualification, today's first round of the 4-Hills opener in Oberstdorf will now start with the entire field of 62 athletes, including all Polish athletes, no k.o. system. The best 30 of the first round will then reach the final round, as is usual in the World Cup.
"We are extremely happy about the good news of the negative test results and the start clearance for the Polish team. We have therefore also made the decision in the Competition Management to start the first round today with the entire field and not to count yesterday's qualification," explained FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile.
