The 2020/21 World Cup season is already over for record World Cup winner Gregor Schlierenzauer. Schlierenzauer was not named to the Austrian team for the World Championships in Oberstdorf, and he will also not be competing in any of the World Cups after the WSC.

Schlierenzauer was going to take part in last weekend's Continental Cup in Brotterode, but he was not able to due to an injury sustained before the first competition there.
After the trial round of Saturday's competition in Brotterode, Schlierenzauer felt pain in his left knee and so he could not compete. Now a partial rupture of the left ACL was diagnosed after a medical check in the hospital.

Gregor Schlierenzauer writes in his blog:
"Somehow things keep going wrong. The season, which started tough with the Covid infection and didn't really get going for me, now ends with a partial rupture of the left ACL, sustained last weekend at the Continental Cup in Brotterode. I jumped very far in the trial round, a telemark was not possible. I and an x-position at the landing, and that's it."
