1-2 finish for Norway in large hill qualification

Feb 11, 2022·Ski Jumping
Marius Lindvik

Marius Lindvik won the qualification for the competition on the large hill in the Snow Ruyi National Ski Jumping Center of Beijing. Lindvik jumped on 135 m (136.4 points) on the HS 140 hill and took the win ahead of his teammate Halvor Egner Granerud (133.5 m; 131.6 points) and Slovenia's Peter Prevc (131 m; 128.3 points).

"I hope that I can show similar jumps tomorrow. In the first training jumps, I have been struggling a bit with the inrun position, I was able to solve this problem yesterday and in the qualification today. I try not to think about the fact that it will be a very special event tomorrow, I want to look at it as just a normal competition", Lindvik said after his success today.

Halvor Egner Granerud, Peter Prevc, Stefan Kraft, Danil Sadreev, and Markus Eisenbichler came in right behind Lindvik in the qualification and they share one thing: They all have a realistic chance to win an Olympic medal in Saturday's competition.

"I have a very good feeling, I like the large hill more than the normal hill, that's no secret. Tomorrow you will need to have a bit of luck in order to be successful. Many athletes in the field can jump really well, I'm one of them and I'm really looking forward to the competition tomorrow", Stefan Kraft said after the qualification.

The surprise of the day was Finland's Antti Aalto in seventh, Kamil Stoch and Ryoyu Kobayashi followed behind the Finn in eighth and ninth. Karl Geiger was 12th on his 29th birthday, Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, bronze medalist in the mixed team event three days ago, came in 18th, his teammate Matthew Soukup qualified for the competition in 47th today.

The Olympic competition on the large hill will start on Saturday at 7 pm LOC (12 pm CET).
