COC-M: Austrians sweep the podium

The Austrian ski jumpers dominated the first of two Continental Cup competitions in Rasnov (ROU). All three spots on the podium went to jumpers of the Austrian Ski Association on Saturday afternoon.

The best on the HS 97 normal hill was Manuel Fettner. With jumps of 101 m and 95.5 m and 254.8 points, the 36-year-old veteran claimed his first win in the Continental Cup since March 2018 in Zakopane.

With the longest jump of the day of 102 m in the first round and 91.5 m in the final, Fettner's teammate Ulrich Wohlgenannt came in second with 243.2 points. The sweep of the Austrians today was completed by Mika Schwann, who won a competition in Frenstat last weekend and finished third today with 100 m and 94 m and 242.4 points.

The fourth place went to the best Norwegian in this competition, Fredrik Villumstad, followed by the best athlete of the Polish team, Kacper Juroszek, in fifth. David Siegel of Germany and Turkey's Fatih Arda Ipcioglu, who could already show very good performances in Frenstat and now finished in the Top 10 of a COC for the first time ever, tied for sixth.

Andreas Schuler of Switzerland was eighth, behind him, Maximilian Steiner and David Haagen completed the strong result of the Austrian team. Andrew Urlaub of the USA and Ukrainian Andrii Vaskul could achieve very good results as well in 11th and 12th.

With his third place this afternoon, Mika Schwann now took the lead in the overall ranking of the COC with 276 points. Finland's Eetu Nousiainen, who is not competing in Rasnov, is second (238 points), David Siegel follows in third (216 points).
The second competition in Rasnov starts on Sunday at 1 pm CET.
