The Norwegians could not only celebrate a win at the Olympic Games in Beijing today but also in the first competition of the Continental Cup in Brotterode (GER) on Saturday evening, a Norwegian ski jumper stood on top of the podium.

Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng laid the foundation for this win there with his first jump, which was by far the longest jump of the day, of 120 m. The 26-year-old then secured his fourth win in the COC, the first this winter, with 112 m in the second round and 269.1 points.

The biggest surprise of the first competition in Brotterode was provided by Kacper Juroszek. The 20-year-old Pole posted jumps of 115.5 m and 111.5 m on the HS 117 hill and took second place and his first-ever podium in the COC with a total of 259.2 points.

With Sondre Ringen, another athlete from Norway finished among the best three jumpers of the day. After 115 m in the first round and the eighth place at halftime, Ringen could then move up to third overall with the second jump of 113 m and 255.0 points.

Slovenia's Ziga Jelar once again proved his consistently strong shape at the moment and came in fourth today after finishing on the podium three times in a row last weekend. Behind Jakub Wolny, who was fifth and the second Pole among the best today, Eetu Nousainen of Finland came in on a very good sixth place.
Behind Anze Semenic of Slovenia (7th), the Austrians Michael Hayboeck (8th), Markus Mueller (9th), and Ulrich Wohlgenannt (10th) completed today's Top 10.

Ulrich Wohlgenannt remains the clear leader in the overall ranking of the Continental Cups with now 716 points. Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng is now second with 622 points, followed by Thomas Lackner in third with 544 points.
The second competition in Brotterode starts on Sunday at 10 am CET.
