COC-M: Norwegians take 1-2 finish in Engelberg

Dec 27, 2021·Ski Jumping
Benjamin Oestvold

The winning streak of the Norwegian ski jumpers in the Continental Cup continued today. After both wins in the last COC in Ruka went to Norway's Robin Pedersen, his teammates now secured the two top spots on day 1 in Engelberg.

With jumps of 132 m and 125 m and 255.9 points, Benjamin Oestvold took his very first win in the Continental Cup. So far the fifth place last September in Bischofshofen was the best COC result of the 20-year-old. "It's unbelievable, I'm speechless. I was extremely nervous before my second jump, I really don't like being the last one up there. It's so quiet and you feel the pressure. But that makes it even more fun if you have a good second jump", Oestvold said after his win.

Only 1.6 points behind the winner, Oestvold's teammate Anders Haare came in second and achieved his first podium finish this season with 128.5 m and 128 m.

Austria's Stefan Rainer came in third with 123.5 m and 122.5 m and a total of 237.9 points, he finished only 0.5 points ahead of his teammate Thomas Lackner, who was fourth.

Close behind the two Austrians, Philipp Raimund was the best German jumper in this competition in fifth. Behind Anze Semenic of Slovenia in sixth, three more Austrians followed in seventh, eighth, and ninth place with Clemens Aigner, Maximilian Ortner, and Markus Schiffner.
The tenth place went to Norway's Sondre Ringen.

With the 360 points he scored so far this season, Ulrich Wohlgenannt is still leading the overall ranking of the COC. Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng is second with 255 points, Thomas Lackner is now third with 252 points.

The second competition in Engelberg starts on Tuesday at 11 am CET.
