COC-M: Schwann and Fettner claim 1-2 finish for Austria
Aug 22, 2021·Ski JumpingAfter the Austrian ski jumpers dominated the first competition of the Continental Cup in Rasnov (ROU) with a podium sweep on Saturday, two Austrian then claimed the top spots on the podium in Sunday's competition.
Mika Schwann showed once again that he is in great shape this summer. The 22-year-old from Klagenfurt won the competition with 98 m and 94.5 m and 250.6 points and finished on the podium in the last four competitions.
"It was a great weekend for me here. At first, I wasn't planning to come to Rasnov, but then a teammate got ill. Yesterday the jumps weren't quite as perfect as I wished them to be, but today they were a lot better, especially the first one. I'm really very satisfied", said Mika Schwann, who now took the overall lead in the Continental Cup for the first time in his career.
Only 0.4 points behind his teammate, Manuel Fettner, the winner of the first competition on Saturday evening, came in second with jumps of 97 m and 95 m and 250.2 points.
Another very good team result for Austria was completed by Ulrich Wohlgenannt, David Haagen, and Maximilian Steiner in fifth, seventh, and eighth.
Andrew Urlaub of the USA could already show some convincing performances in this summer's Continental Cups, today the 20-year-old then could reward himself with his first-ever podium finish. The American posted jumps of 94.5 m and 96 m and came in third with 243.7 points.
Norway's Fredrik Villumstad narrowly missed the podium on both days in Rasnov. Like on Saturday, he was also fourth on Sunday, only one point behind Andrew Urlaub. Kacper Juroszek was the best of the Polish team again in sixth.
The Top 10 were completed by the two Slovenes Jernej Presecnik (9th) and Marcel Strzinar (10th). Right behind the third Slovene, Rok Masle, David Siegel was the best German today in 12th, followed by his teammates Luca Geyer and Claudio Haas.
The Continental Cup continues on September 11th and 12th with two competitions in Bischofshofen (AUT).
