COC-M: Second win in a row for Ulrich Wohlgenannt

After the competition premiere last weekend on the brand-new Olympic hill in China, the second stop of the Continental Cup this winter is a traditional Ski Jumping venue. Two competitions will be held on the HS 117 hill in Vikersund (NOR) on Friday and Saturday.

Austria's Ulrich Wohlgenannt could once again prove his currently strong shape again on Friday evening. The Austrian, who showed convincing performances last weekend with finishing second and first, took his second win in a row today. After 104.5 m and the second place in the first round, the 27-year-old posted the longest jump of the day with 123.5 m in the final round and could secure the win with 248.2 points.

Local hero Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng showed jumps of 114 m and 119 m and achieved a top result for the hosting team of Norway in second with a total of 245.7 points.

After the first half of the competition, Germany's Severin Freund was in the lead ahead of Wohlgenannt and Bjoereng with 115 m. With 118.5 m in the final, the 33-year-old then lost some ground and finished third with 240.8 points.

The fourth place went to Zak Mogel of Slovenia, behind him, two other Norwegians came in among the best with Sondre Ringen and Anders Haare. The best athlete of the Polish team was veteran Stefan Hula in seventh, followed by Thomas Lackner of Austria and Japan's Ren Nikaido, who had a strong jump in the final round and could move up from 20th to ninth overall.

Ulrich Wohlgenannt now leads the overall ranking with 280 points, Germany's David Siegel, who could not qualify for the final round of the Top 30 today, follows in second with 180 points, Siegel's teammate Philipp Raimund is third with 121 points.

The second competition in Vikersund starts on Saturday at 11 am CET.
