COC-M: Surprising 1-2 finish for Poland
Feb 13, 2022·Ski JumpingOn the second day of the Continental Cup on the Inselberghill in Brotterode (GER), the team of Poland could secure an unexpected 1-2 finish. Kacper Juroszek came in close ahead of his teammate Jakub Wolny on the HS 117 hill.
With the self-confidence of the first podium of his career on Saturday evening, Kacper Juroszek showed yet another very strong performance on Sunday and so the 20-year-old ski jumper from Wisla could claim his maiden win in the Continental Cup today with jumps of 111 m and 108.5 m and 251.3 points.
After a 108 m jump in the first round, Juroszek's teammate Jakub Wolny then had the longest jump in the final round with 113.5 m, and with a score of 250.0 points, he moved up from eighth to second overall.
Clemens Aigner of Austria posted two consistent jumps of 110 m and 110.5 m and finished third close behind the two Poles with his total of 249.0 points.
After the hosting team of Germany could not place an athlete among the best in this weekend's first competition, it went a lot better today, at least for David Siegel, who finished in the very good fourth place.
The winner of Saturday's competition, Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng, was in the lead again after the first round today, but with only 99.5 m in his second jump, the Norwegian lost some ground and came in fifth. Right behind him, his teammate Anders Haare, who was only 18th after the first round, finished sixth, the seventh place went to Slovenia's Ziga Jelar.
Sondre Ringen of Norway was eighth, followed by Austria's Markus Rupitsch and Anze Semenic of Slovenia in ninth and tenth.
After the weekend in Brotterode, Austria's Ulrich Wohlgenannt (721 points), Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng (567 points) and Thomas Lackner (544 points) are the Top 3 in the overall ranking of the COC.
The next two competitions of the Continental Cup will be held in Rena (NOR) next weekend.
