COC-M: Thomas Lackner dominates in Lahti
Mar 05, 2022·Ski JumpingThomas Lackner of Austria won the first of two Continental Cup competitions in Lahti (FIN) this weekend on Saturday evening with an outstanding performance.
The 28-year-old had the best jumps in both rounds on the HS 130 hill with 129.5 m and 127 m and could claim a clear win with his total score of 294.1 points. This is his first-ever win in the Continental Cup, so far the second place in Innsbruck in January late January was his best result.
"This was a really great competition, every jump I made was very good. I trained a lot last week and finally, all the hard training paid off. I'm already excited about tomorrow's competition and I'll try to show my best jumps again", said Lackner.
The second and third place went to members of the Polish team, that showed an impressive performance today. Aleksander Zniszczol, who was sixth after the first round with 123.5 m, jumped on 126.5 m in the final and moved up to second overall with 271.8 points.
His teammate Maciej Kot was also able to improve his result in the second round. After the first jump of 121 m, he landed at 125 m in the second round and, after he was ninth at halftime, he finished third in this competition.
Behind Slovenia's Zak Mogel in fourth, Andrzej Stekala was fifth and the third-best Pole today. Austria's Francisco Moerth came in sixth and achieved the best result of his career so far, behind him, the two best Germans, Kilian Maerkl and Justin Lisso finished seventh and eighth.
Jan Bombek of Slovenia was ninth and Polish veteran Stefan Hula completed the Top 10 of the day.
In the overall ranking of the Continental Cup, Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng remains in the lead with 878 points, followed by Ulrich Wohlgenannt (798 points9 and Thomas Lackner (738 points). The second competition in Lahti starts on Sunday at 11:30 am CET.
