Ski Jumping events are also held outside of the Olympic Games in Beijing right now. Iron Mountain (USA) hosts the Continental Cup, and a total of three competitions is scheduled there this weekend, two of which on Saturday.

In both competitions today, a Slovenian athlete could celebrate the win. In the first event, it was Ziga Jelar, who was sixth after the first round on Pine Mountain with 125 m, and then had the best jump in the final round of 132 m to secure him the win, his third in the COC, with 259.4 points.

Anders Haare came from behind in the second round and secured his spot on the podium with a strong second jump. After 124 m in the first round, the Norwegian posted a second jump of 134 m and moved up from eleventh to second with 255.1 points.

Behind Haare, his teammate Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng came in third with 124.5 m and 132 m and 253.8 points. The strong team result of the Norwegians was completed by Sondre Ringen in fourth.

The best of the German team was Philipp Raimund in fifth, closely followed by the best Austrian, Markus Schiffner, in sixth.

In the second competition of the day, which was held in more difficult wind conditions just a short time later, Domen Prevc made it to the top of the podium. The 22-year-old was eleventh after his first jump of 121 m. The longest jump in the final round of 132 m and a total of 244.3 points then earned him his third win in the Continental Cup.

With the longest jump of the competition of 133 m, Germany's Philipp Raimund was in the lead after the first round, but 122 m in were not enough for him to defend this top position in the final round. In the end, he came in second close behind the winner with 243.9 points.

Like a few hours earlier, Ziga Jelar once again showed a strong performance and finished third with jumps of 119 m and 131.5 m and a total of 240.3 points.

Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng narrowly missed the podium this time in fourth, the two Austrians Michael Hayboeck and Markus Schiffner came in fifth and sixth.

After day 1 in Iron Mountain, Austria's Ulrich Wohlgenannt, who is not competing this weekend, remains in the lead of the overall ranking with 690 points. He is followed by Thomas Lackner (524 points) and Philipp Raimund (487 points) in second and third.
Sunday's competition in Iron Mountain starts at 8 pm CET.
