The first competition of the women's Continental Cup in Rasnov on Saturday became a duel between the jumpers of Slovenia and China.

In the end, Slovenia's Jerneja Brecl took a clear win. With 93 m and 94.5 m she was the best in both rounds on the HS 97 normal hill and claimed her third win in the Continental Cup with a total of 221.3 points.
"I decided to come to Rasnov because I wanted to keep competing this summer and to remain in shape because the time between the events Frenstat and Chaikovsky would have been very long. I'm happy about my result today, it was fun", said Jerneja Brecl.

The only 17-year-old Chinese Liangyao Wang, for whom the COC in Rasnov is only her second in this competition series after last month's event in Kuopio, took second place and her first-ever podium finish with 85.5 m and 91 m and 199.0 points.

Wang came in ahead of her teammate Bing Dong, who jumped on 89.5 m and 85 m and finished third with 193.8 points. For the 24-year-old this was also only her third Continental Cup competition and the best result of her career so far.

With Jerneja Repinc Zupancic and Nika Prevc, the places four and fifth went to jumpers from Slovenia, followed by the next two Chinese athletes, Qingyue Peng and Xueyao Li. Behind Nika Vetrih of Slovenia (8th), Germany's Josephin Laue was ninth and the best jumper who's not from either Slovenia or China. Local hero Daniela Haralambie was tenth today.

Julia Muelbacher of Austria leads the overall ranking of the COC with 178 points, followed by Russia's Mariia Iakovleva (160 points) and Birun Shao of China (146 points). The second women's competition in Rasnov starts on Sunday at 10 am CET.
