COC-W: Victories for Shao and Iakovleva

The first two women's Continental Cup competitions of the summer were held on Saturday on the normal hill in Kuopio (FIN).

In the first event of the day, China's Birun Shao could claim the win in her very first appearance in the COC. The 17-year-old posted jumps of 91 m and 95 m and won the competition with a total of 200.2 points.
The only 16-year-old Austrian Julia Muehlbacher jumped on 94 m and 84.5 m and came in second and secured the best result of her career in the Continental Cup with 191.6 points. The third place went to Mariia Iakovleva of Russia with jumps of 98 m and 82.5 m and 189.6 points.

Xueyao Li of China could move up from ninth to four with the best performance in the final round, she was followed by Hannah Wiegele of Austria and Anastasiia Subbotina of Russia in fifth and sixth.

Mariia Iakovleva then took the win in the second competition. With 97 m and 93.5 m, the Russian was the best in both rounds and took the top spot with a total of 221.2 points.
Julia Muehlbacher was able to repeat her second place with jumps of 94.5 m and 93 m and 213.1 points. After she finished seventh in the first competition in Kuopio, Kurumi Ichinohe of Japan achieved the first Top 3 result of her career in third with 203.1 points (91.5 m and 93.5 m).

Behind Austria's Hannah Wiegele in fourth, three Chinese athletes came in fifth, sixth, and seventh with Bing Dong, Qingyue Peng, and Birun Shao.

After the two competitions in Kuopio, Julia Muehlbacher (160 points) and Mariia Iakovleva (160 points) lead the overall ranking of the COC. Birun Shao is currently third with 136 points.
The next competitions will be held in Rasnov (ROU) on August 21st and 22nd.
