Johann Andre Forfang and Silje Opseth win Norwegian nationals

The Norwegian Ski Jumping championships on the large hill were held on the famous Holmenkollen in Oslo on Tuesday. The titles at this traditional venue went to Johann Andre Forfang and Silje Opseth.

In a very close men's competition, Johann Andre Forfang, who has been struggling with his shape in the World Cup recently, took the win with his jumps of 126 m and 127 m and 268.4 points.

Not even two points behind the new Norwegian champion, Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng (124.5 m and 134.5 m) and Nordic Combined athlete Jarl Magnus Riiber (133 m and 125 m) tied for second with 266.5 points.

Halvor Egner Granerud narrowly missed the podium in fourth by a bit more than three points, Robin Pedersen and Iver Olaussen followed in fifth and sixth.

Daniel Andre Tande and Fredrik Villumstad could not take part in the championships due to positive Covid-tests, and Marius Lindvik missed this competition as well, he tested negative but is in self-isolation as a close contact of Daniel Andre Tande.

Silje Opseth was unbeatable in the women's competition. She took the win with 118 m and 120 m and 277.6 points, clearly ahead of Anna Odine Stroem (116.5 m and 115 m; 261.3 points) and Thea Minyan Bjoerseth (110.5 m and 117.5 m; 256.7 points).

Olympic team named

The Norwegian Olympic teams were named shortly before the nationals. Alexander Stoeckl named Marius Lindvik, Halvor Egner Granerud, Daniel Andre Tande, Johann Andre Forfang, and Robert Johansson to his team. Silje Opseth, Thea Minyan Bjoerseth, and Anna Odine Stroem are on the women's team for Beijing.
