Karl Geiger won Saturday's Ski Jumping World Cup competition in Titisee-Neustadt. In good conditions, the reigning Ski Flying World Champion took the win on the Hochfirst-hill ahead of Slovenia's Anze Lanisek and his teammate Markus Eisenbichler.

With an outstanding final jump, on the hill that he didn't really like until today, Karl Geiger claimed the win in the first of two Ski Jumping World Cups in Titisee-Neustadt. And with this win he also took the lead in the overall World Cup back from Ryoyu Kobayashi.

"It's was an amazing day for me. I didn't expect that I would be able to win here, because I have been struggling on this hill in the past. Both jumps today were very good and my performance was also on a good level yesterday already. I'm extremely happy about this win", the Oberstdorf-native said after his success. It was the 12th win in the World Cup for Geiger, the third this season.

Anze Lanisek once again proved his great shape this winter with the second place today. It was already the 6th second place for the 25-year-old, so far Lanisek has won one World Cup event (Ruka on November 28, 2021).

Not only Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler, in third place, contributed to the outstanding team result of Germany. Stephan Leyhe, Constantin Schmid, and Justin Lisso came in eighth, ninth, and tenth and also made their head coach Stefan Horngacher happy today.
Markus Eisenbichler said: "I'm very satisfied with today's result. Yesterday my jumps weren't that good, but we found a good solution after analyzing it with the coaches. I trusted in what the coaches were telling me and it worked out well, it's really cool. I'm very happy about this third place and with my jumps. Even if I would have finished fifth or seventh today, I would have been satisfied with the performance."

Halvor Egner Granerud and Ryoyu Kobayashi came in fourth and fifth and lost some ground in the fight for the overall World Cup title today. Karl Geiger now leads with 997 points, followed by Kobayashi (986 points) and Granerud (749 points).
The German team now also leads the Nations Cup with 3247 points ahead of Austria (3129 points) and Norway (2903 points).

Slovenia also achieved a strong team result today with Cene Prevc and Lovro Kos in sixth and seventh. The Slovenes will definitely play a strong role in the team competition in Beijing.

The best Austrian was Jan Hoerl in 10th, Manuel Fettner convinced in 14th, Stefan Kraft was 22nd. Gregor Deschwanden was the best of the Swiss team in 15th.

The second competition in Titisee-Neustadt starts on Sunday at 4 pm CET.
