Kramer wins the Crystal Globe, Slovenian the rest in Oberhof

Securing it on Saturday before the very last competition, Austria's Marita Kramer won her first overall women's World Cup with 1316 points. After Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (2014/15 season), she is the second Austrian to win the big crystal globe in the Women Ski Jumping World Cup. "The overall victory is simply the perfect conclusion. That was my goal at the beginning of the season, the second part of the season was not easy. I would have wished a different end to the season, but this big globe was my dream and goal” explained Kramer who finished fourth today.
Last year Overall winner, Nika Kriznar from Slovenia took the second place with 1191 points, ahead of her teammate Ursa Bogataj while she was last year 16th.
Slovenian were not only on the overall podium but also on all others during this final. Ursa Bogataj scored a back-to-back victory in Oberhof (GER) with two good jumps of 95.5 and 100 for a total of 277.4 points. She registered a third hill record in three days with 101 m in qualification. Second and third place of today’s competition went to teammates Nika Kriznar and Ema Klinec. Best German Katharina Althaus finished fifth.
As far as Nations Cup is concerned, Slovenia was best again with 4570 points. The whole team received then today the small globe. Austria was keeping the lead until Willingen (GER), last World Cups before Olympics in China but Slovenia clearly dominated since then. Japan is third, far behind.
Being the last competitions of the season, emotions were at their highest point today. Not only happy tears could be seen on the winners faces as a few departures were announced in the Slovenian team. Spela Rogelj (sixth today) confirmed that she was now leaving “I announced it already two years ago as I prefered leaving being on the top rather than down”. More surprising, Slovenian coach Zoran Zupancic decided to quit. “After four years, we have every single title possible, Olympic to World Champion, individual, overall or team event. Nations Cup means for me the most. I have my reason to quit and do not want to continue in the current conditions.” explained the head coach.
The season is now over with Russia cancelled. It is now time for everyone to celebrate this end of the season and have a bit of time off before being back on hills.
