Marita Kramer wins in Klingenthal
Dec 10, 2021·Ski JumpingThe top favorite Marita Kramer won the first of two women's World Cup competitions in Klingenthal (GER). After her clear win in yesterday's qualification, the Austrian had to fight hard today, it was really close in the end.
Kramer jumped on 133 m and 124.5 m (247.9 points) and came in only 2.6 points ahead of the strong Norwegian Silje Opseth (133.5 m and 123.5 m), who just narrowly missed her first World Cup win.
"I'm very happy about this win, unfortunately, my jumps were not as good as yesterday, but all in all they were on a petty high level. But of course, it was a very good day for me, it was my eleventh win in the World Cup and I'm very satisfied", Kramer explained after her success.
Second-placed Opseth can slowly but surely follow in the footsteps of superstar Maren Lundby, who will not be competing in the World Cup this winter. "I make progress step by step and it feels very good. I know that I can do even better if I keep working hard", said Opseth, for whom this was already the fifth second place in the World Cup.
The third place went to the overall champion of the FIS Grand Prix 2021, Ursa Bogataj of Slovenia, followed by her teammate Nika Kriznar. "I'm very happy to be on the podium here today because actually, I'm still lacking the perfect feeling to jump far on the big hills", Bogataj explained.
Behind the two Slovenes, Sara Takanashi and Kaori Iwabuchi of Japan came in fifth and sixth. Katharina Althaus finished seventh. "It was a good competition, my jumps were not perfect, but I think it was very exciting and I can do better tomorrow", said Althaus, who finished ahead of the two Austrians Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and Eva Pinkelnig.
Spela Rogelj was tenth and was the third member of the strong Slovenian team in the Top 10 today.
The second women's competition in Klingenthal follows on Saturday at 10:30 am CET.
