Ski Flying World Champion Karl Geiger claimed his second win this season in a hard-fought competition in Engelberg (SUI). On Saturday evening, Geiger won ahead of Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi and Timi Zajc of Slovenia.

It was the most exciting final in winter with already many exciting competitions so far. World Cup leader Karl Geiger took the win with an outstanding performance against extremely strong rivals, first and foremost Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan.

"I really enjoyed the time at the award ceremony. It was not easy today, I had to remain extremely focused and everything worked out well for me today. It's amazing that I was able to make these two very good jumps in the competition", Geiger said right after the ceremony.

With his 11th World Cup win, the second this season, Geiger could further extend his lead in the overall World Cup to now 118 points. This means that Geiger will definitely start the 70th 4-Hills-Tournament as the overall World Cup leader. He now scored a total of 514 points, Kobayashi is second with 396 World Cup points.

The third place today went to Slovenia's Timi Zajc. The 21-year-old showed a top performance and was in the lead after the first round, but in the final, he lost some ground compared to Geiger and Kobayashi despite another good jump.

Local hero Killian Peier, who is getting better and better after his long break due to a knee injury, came in fourth and is now one of the top contenders for the podium in the second competition in Engelberg on Sunday. Jan Hoerl was the best Austrian today in fifth.

The level of the competition was extremely high, and so top athletes who showed some really good jumps had to be satisfied with Top 10 results, like Kamil Stoch (6th), Halvor Egner Granerud (7th), Anze Lanisek (8th), Stefan Kraft (9th) and Marius Lindvik (10th).

Evgeniy Klimov and Danil Sadreev scored points for Russia today in 14th and 18th, Stephan Leyhe and Markus Eisenbichler tied for 27th, Andreas Wellinger failed to make the cut for the final round in 43rd.

The second competition in Engelberg starts on Sunday at 4 pm CET.
