New hill in Iron Mountain (USA)

It took a little bit longer than originally planned, but it was worth the wait. "We will have a Ski Jumping and a Nordic Combined World Cup in the USA again after a long break", said FIS Ski Jumping Race Director Sandro Pertile.
After more than 20 years, athletes and fans can now look forward to Ski Jumping World Cup competitions in the USA again.

FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile was touring the USA recently and also visited the completely renovated facility in Iron Mountain.
"Iron Mountain has a good chance to be part of the 2022/2023 World Cup calendar. There's still some work to do, but basically, the infrastructure is very good, there's still enough time left and the motivation of the organizer is amazing. We will have a great comeback of the Ski Jumping World Cup in the USA", Pertile is optimistic. "The atmosphere in Iron Mountain is always special, not only because the fans are sitting in their cars and honk during the competitions", Pertile told.

The last Ski Jumping World Cup so far, at the venue located about 300 km north of Chicago, was held in February 2000, back then Germany's Martin Schmitt could win twice there.
Since 2000, Continental Cup events were held regularly in Iron Mountain, a city of 8000 near Lake Michigan, but for a World Cup, the venue was lacking the infrastructure and budget. Now it is planned to carry out two Continental Cups on the new hill next winter, the long-awaited comeback in the World Cup could then finally follow in the 2022/2023 winter season.
