Not the favorite Halvor Egner Granerud, but the underdog Oscar Westerheim won the national championship title on the K95 hill in Norway on Saturday. In the top-class competition, Westerheim provided a big surprise on the Midtstubakken in Oslo. Silje Opseth won the women's event.

"It is unbelievable that I managed to win today, and that I could even beat Halvor in the competition today makes it even more unbelievable" declared the overwhelmed winner after his success. For Westerheim it was the first national title. "Better late than never, the training pays off. I've been jumping for many years now and have gained a lot of experience that benefits me. I hope it goes as well in the winter," said Westerheim.
The victory of the 25-year-old Westerheim was very close: Westerheim scored 265.5 points with his two jumps, Granerud finished second with 265.3 points, only 0.2 points behind the day's winner, the third place in the men's event went to Marius Lindvik.

In the women's competition, favorite Silje Opseth won clearly ahead of Anna Odine Stroem and Thea Minyan Bjoerseth. Opseth scored 287.8 points and had a lead of more than 40 points over Stroem (246.2 points) and Bjoerseth (231 points).

The Mixed Team competition will follow for the Norwegians on Sunday.
