Poland's Kamil Stoch won the prologue for the first of the two World Cup competitions in Willingen (GER) on Friday evening, a qualification was not necessary because there were only 47 athletes competing. Stoch won with a tiny margin of 0.1 points ahead of Daniel Huber of Austria and Slovenia's Anze Lanisek.

Kamil Stoch scored 136.2 points for the longest jump of the day of 146 m. Besides Stoch, also his teammates Piotr Zyla (4th), Dawid Kubacki (7th), and Pawel Wasek (9th) finished in the Top 10. After they have been struggling this winter so far, the Polish team showed an impressive performance today.

"I was a bit disappointed that I could take part in the mixed team competition today, but that was due to my injury. I still need to go easy on my ankle", explained Stoch, who missed the last couple of competitions due to an ankle injury. All of a sudden, the Poles are now back among the top contenders for the medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The best German in the prologue was Severin Freund in eighth, Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler, and Ryoyu Kobayashi decided not to jump, because due to the low number of competitors they are able to compete on Saturday anyway.

The men's competition on Saturday starts at 4 pm CET.
