Anze Lanisek wins qualification in Klingenthal
Sep 30, 2022·Ski JumpingSlovenia's Anze Lanisek won the qualification for the final of the FIS Grand Prix in Klingenthal (Ger). The 26-year-old came in ahead of Italy's Giovanni Bresadola and top favorite Dawid Kubacki of Poland.
With his win today, Lanisek confirmed his second place in last weekend's competition in Hinzenbach and, at the same time, his ambitions for the upcoming winter. Lanisek has the skills to fight for the overall World Cup title, because not only are his jumps on a high level, but he now also has the necessary experience.
The "man of the day" was Italian Giovanni Bresadola in second. The 21-year-old has already shown a positive trend during the course of this summer (8th in Courchevel, 12th in Rasnov), but today's result is on a new level for Bresadola. After great jumps in training, he came in second in the qualification with a jump of 138 m - top. It will be interesting to see what the Italian can achieve in Sunday's individual competition.
Dawid Kubacki showed yet another very good performance today and came in third with 136 m. Kubacki is the king of the summer, and he will confirm this title in the final event on Sunday when he will secure the overall title of the Grand Prix for the fourth time, there's no doubt about that.
Daniel Tschofenig strong again
Rising star Daniel Tschofenig once again achieved a strong result with his fourth place in the qualification. Right behind the Austrian, Andreas Wellinger was the best German. He jumped on 135 m and came in fifth, a perfect start of the weekend for him.
Daniel Andre Tande and Olympic champion Marius Lindvik finished 13th and 15th.
Nakamura and Nikaido ahead of Kobayashi
Superstar Ryoyu Kobayashi was 17th and came in behind two of his teammates this evening. Naoki Nakamura and Ren Nikaido were better than Kobayashi today in eighth and 12th.
Slovenian women on top again
The final women's qualification of the 2022 summer season, the Slovenians once again showed the best performances. In absence of the 2021 overall World Cup champion Nika Kriznar, they claimed a 1-2 finish: Former World Champion Ema Klinec won the qualification with a jump of 132 m (119.3 points) ahead of her teammate and double Olympic champion Ursa Bogataj (126.5 m; 118.4 points). The third place went to Japan's Yuka Seto.
Record World Cup winner Sara Takanashi (JPN) was fourth, Selina Freitag was the best of the German team in 5th on continued on her upward trend of the summer, Katharina Althaus was ninth, Luisa Goerlich came in tenth.
Marita Kramer of Austria was disqualified because her suit was not compliant with the rules, so last winter's overall World Cup champion will not be able to compete in this summer's final competition on Sunday.
The same fate was shared by the current men's overall World Cup champion Ryoyu Kobayashi last weekend in Hinzenbach (AUT).
A total of 47 athletes was participating today, Veronika Shishkina of Kazakhstan sustained an injury during the warm-up and was not able to jump.
The first competition in Klingenthal will be the mixed-team event on Saturday (4:05 pm CET). The women's (12:30 pm) and men's (4:05 pm) individual competitions follow on Sunday.
