Germany's Carina Vogt announced today that she has decided to end her long, successful career in Ski Jumping.

"I have realized that I'm limited physically and I can't perform on the same level that I have been for years and that I've always wanted. I've always lived the sport 100 % and over the past two years I realized that this is not working anymore and that I can no longer live up to my own expectations", the 30-year-old, who was often struggling with injuries recently, explained her decision.

Carina Vogt, who has been competing in the World Cup since 2012, already has plans for what the near future will look like for her. "I'll continue my training with the federal police with studies starting in July, I decided to continue my career there for now. I want to continue this education and leave all the options open for later."

First female Ski Jumping Olympic champion
Carina Vogt won the first Olympic gold medal in women's Ski Jumping in Sochi 2014. At World Championships she finished on the podium a total of six times and claimed five gold medals, including individual gold in 2015 and 2017. The German athlete competed in 124 World Cup competitions and took two wins.
