Dawid Kubacki wins in Wisla

Poland's Dawid Kubacki won the first of two Grand Prix competitions in Wisla (POL). Kubacki, who is considered a specialist in Ski Jumping in summer, came in ahead of his teammate Kamil Stoch and Karl Geiger of Germany.

Kubacki was eighth after the first round with a 123.5 m jump, but in the final, he then posted the longest jump of the day of 134.5 m and this performance earned him a clear lead over Kamil Stoch and Karl Geiger in the final results.
"It will still take some time until I can make really good jumps, but the final jump today was the best so far and I can be satisfied, the jumps in the trial round in the first round were not really good technically. It was not easy to attack from eighth place, but I made it and so I'm satisfied. I showed that I can fight until the end", said the happy winner.

Kubacki scored a total of 261.3 points, Stoch 254.2 points (124 m and 120 m), and Geiger 252.5 points (123.5 m and 126 m).
"I'm very satisfied, it was a good competition for me, especially the second jump. It was my best here. It's summer, it's quite hot, but I'm satisfied today. As always, the atmosphere here is great, finally, there are fewer regulations due to the coronavirus and so we can enjoy it. Tomorrow I want to improve my jumps, that's most important", said Geiger.

The fourth place went to last year's winner Jakub Wolny (POL), who was in the lead after the first round. "I'm still very happy about the result. I was training here in Wisla last week and I didn't do well at all. Compared to that, it went really well today", said Wolny.
Maciej Kot achieved a good result in fifth, Piotr Zyla, who won yesterday's qualification, came in sixth, followed by his teammate Pawel Wasek.

Thomas Lackner was the best Austrian in eighth, Niko Kytosaho came in tenth. "The result is okay, but the jump in the final round was not good, that's why I'm a bit annoyed, a better result would have been possible", said Kytosaho, who can be optimistic for the future of the Finnish team as Mika Kojonkoski is now in charge as sports director. Kojonkoski is considered one of the world's best coaches and a guarantor of success and even if he will not be coaching the Finnish jumpers, it can be assumed that, under Kojonkoski's lead, the Finns will be among the world's best again in the future.

Pius Paschke and Andreas Wellinger achieved solid results in 11th and 13th, nothing more, nothing less. Like yesterday, Naoki Nakamura (14th) was the best of the Japanese team. In absence of top jumpers like, for example, Peter Prevc, Ziga Jelar, and Timi Zajc, Domen Prevc was the best Slovene in 15th.
With Kevin Maltsev and Artti Aigro in 25th and 28th, both Estonians managed to score points this afternoon.

The second men's competition starts on Sunday at 1 pm CET.
