Home victory for Katharina Althaus in Titisee-Neustadt
Dec 11, 2022·Ski JumpingKatharina Althaus won in Titisee-Neustadt! With two times the best distance of 130 and 137 meters and 269.3 points, the woman from Oberstdorf achived her second win of the season on Sunday. Second was Silje Opseth from Norway with 129 and 134 meters and 260.9 points. Ursa Bogataj (129 and 133 m; 258.1 pts) came third.
Abigail Strate finished fourth, setting her best World Cup result. "After struggling a bit in qualifying, I'm very happy with this result. But the podium is definitely my next goal," said the Canadian at 'Eurosport'. Selina Freitag, who was again the second best DSV jumper and was able to achieve a new best career result in fifth place, is now moving in similar areas.
Eva Pinkelnig didn't make it onto the podium for the first time this season. Although she was the best Austrian in seventh place, she had to give up her World Cup lead and the yellow BIB to Althaus. In the top ten, however, she was not the only ÖSV jumper, because Chiara Kreuzer achieved her best result of the season in ninth place. Between the two Austrians was Anna Odine Stroem, the second best Norwegian, Josephine Pagnier was tenth.
With only 41 jumpers on the start list, only one jumper had to fail in the qualification due to sporting reasons. But that settled with the disqualification of Paige Jones, whose suit didn't conform to the rules. The American, who otherwise would have entered the competition without any problems, had to watch as Tetiana Pylypchuk jumped in instead of her. But the Ukrainian could not get any World Cup points when she was 40th, just like the Romanian Delia Anamaria Folea, who qualified for a competition for the first time and was 39th. Her teammate Andreea Diana Trambitas matched her best World Cup result in 38th.
In the overall World Cup, Katharina Althaus has now taken the lead thanks to her first victory in Germany. With 340 points she is just 4 points in front of Eva Pinkelnig. Silje Opseth is third, just 13 points behind Althaus.
