Double Olympic champion Ursa Bogataj of Slovenia wan to the final competition of the FIS Grand Prix 2022 in an outstanding manner. The 27-year-old came in clearly ahead of her teammate Ema Klinec and Selina Freitag of Germany.

The final women's competition of the 2022 Grand Prix was a show of strength of the Slovenian team. They secured a 1-2 finish with Ursa Bogataj and Ema Klinec in today's competition and Bogataj won the overall ranking ahead of her teammate Nika Kriznar, who was not competing in Klingenthal due to an injury.

"I'm feeling really good and I'm very happy about today's result. The conditions were not perfect, of course, I also had some luck, but you need that if you want to win a competition. I'm in good shape and now I hope that I will be able to remain in that shape also for the start of the winter season" explained Bogataj, who had a lead of 27.9 points over Klinec this afternoon.

"I don't want to talk about the disqualification yesterday apart from the fact that we are all close to the limit when it comes to the equipment. That's just the way it is", said Ema Klinec who was disqualified in the mixed team competition in Klingenthal on Saturday. Today it was a better day for her with the second place.

Woman of the day was Selina Freitag
Selina Freitag achieved a top result for the German Ski Association in third today.
For the sister of Richard Freitag, this was the first Grand Prix podium of her career. Freitag has already shown an upward trend during the course of the summer.

"I was really nervous before the second round today and then I had to get off of the bar again. It was a lot of fun today and I could get used to results like this", said Freitag.
With Katharina Althaus (5th) another German made the Top 5 today. The first to congratulate Selina Freitag was her brother Richard Freitag, who was as happy as if this was his success.

Yuki Ito was the best Japanese in fourth, her teammate Sara Takanashi was disqualified in the first round as her suit was not compliant with the rules.

Thea Minyan Bjoerseth, Abigail Strate, Ringo Miyajima, Silje Opseth, and Jenny Rautionaho completed the Top 10 in today's competition.

Serious crash of Emely Torazza
The competition was overshadowed by a serious crash of 17-year-old Swiss Emely Torazza. She lost control right after the take-off and crashed on the knoll after about 45 m. Torazza was treated in the outrun for various minutes and then taken to a hospital. There's no diagnosis yet.

Bogataj defends overall title
Ursa Bogataj won the overall title ahead of Nika Kriznar and defend her success from last summer when she won the Grand Prix overall for the first time, followed by an outstanding winter season, during which she won two Olympic gold medals in Beijing (individual and mixed team).

Josephine Pagnier of France came in third and showed that the French women's team made a big step forward this summer.

The women now start their final phase of preparation before the World Cup starts on November 5th and 6th in Wisla (POL) together with the men. Due to the soccer World Cup, the season starts earlier this year and this means that it will be the first World Cup where the athletes land on plastic mats. There will be an ice track in the inrun, but the landing area will be the same as during the summer season in order to save energy and cut costs by avoiding the production of artificial snow in early November.
