24 hours after his surprise victory at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Klingenthal, Karl Geiger achieved his second victory in the Vogtland Arena.
Geiger prevailed on the HS 140 meter hill in Klingenthal in an outstanding competition ahead of the Swiss Gregor Deschwanden and Andreas Wellinger (GER).

As on the previous day, the spectators saw a top-class long jump competition. Geiger won with jumps of 141 and 141.5 meters.  Gregor Deschwanden and Andreas Wellinger in second and third place managed the feat of breaking Michael Uhrmann's hill record from 2011 (146.5 meters) in the final round.
"I knew that I can jump well, my form is good, but I'm still lacking consistency in my jumps.
I'm extremely happy that it was spot on again in the competition. it wasn't so good in the qualification. I'm the competition type, but it's not a given that things will always go so well in the competition.
If you can win here, in front of this crowd, then it's something very special, the atmosphere the people down in the arena created is definitely pushing you, it's a goosebump feeling. This weekend gives me a lot of self-confidence," said a delighted Geiger.
It was the 30-year-old Bavarian's 15th World Cup victory.

Switzerland's Gregor Deschwanden was delighted with the first World Cup podium (2nd place) of his career.
The 32-year-old's best World Cup result so far (four times) was 7th place. However, Deschwanden, who has been competing in the World Cup since the 2012/2013 season, had already presented himself much better in the last summer than in previous years (2nd place in the overall Grand Prix rankings).
The new Swiss head coach Rune Velta is obviously doing Deschwanden a lot of good.

With Andreas Wellinger in third place, the German team was once again able to impress.
"The weekend in Klingenthal got off to a bumpy start for me and then ended brilliantly with the hill record in the final. We're already looking forward to the Four Hills Tournament as a team, it's an incredibly cool event. We've come so close so many times in the past few years and we'll give it our all again this year, but nobody knows today whether it will work, unfortunately only one person can be at the top in the end," explained Wellinger.
In addition to Geiger and Wellinger, Pius Paschke (8th place) and Stephan Leyhe (10th) also made it into the top 10.

The team from Slovenia showed a clear upward trend: Lovro Kos and Anze Lanisek finished together in 4th place.

For Stefan Kraft, an outstanding opening series came to an end with 9th place in the sixth competition of the winter: after four victories and second place on Saturday, this was the first time this winter that Kraft did not finish on the podium. However, Kraft still leads the overall World Cup ranking with 509 points ahead of the three Germans Wellinger (380 points), Geiger (353 points) and Paschke (283 points).

The World Cup continues next weekend with two World Cups in Engelberg (SUI), followed by the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf on December 29.
