Yuki Ito wins in Sapporo
Jan 14, 2024·Ski JumpingYuki Ito won the second competition at the World Cup in Sapporo on Sunday afternoon (local time) with 124.5 and 129.5 meters and 230.1 points. Katharina Schmid also had reason to smile, achieving the long-awaited first podium finish of the season for Germany with 122 and 129.5 meters and 224 points. Nika Kriznar from Slovenia came third with 123 and 125.5 meters and 218.2 points.
"I really wanted to win today and made two very good jumps. My family is here, so I'm even happier that it worked out," said the Japanese athlete after her second win of the season. Alexandria Loutitt finished 4th and she missed out the podium by 0.3 points. Silje Opseth finished fifth and she was the best Norwegian.
France's Josephine Pagnier finished in sixth place, taking points away from Nika Prevc (10th) in the battle for overall World Cup victory for the first time in seven competitions. Sara Takanashi finished seventh ahead of the previous day's winner Eva Pinkelnig and her Austrian teammate Jacqueline Seifriedsberger. The best Finn was Julia Kykkänen in eleventh place, while compatriot Jenny Rautionaho did not make it past 15th place. As Eirin Maria Kvandal only finished 17th.
Sara Marita Kramer finished in midfield in 13th place, as did Lisa Eder in 16th. Julia Mühlbacher and Chiara Kreuzer finished in 21st and 22nd place respectively. Anna Rupprecht, who was able to make up for her fall from the previous day, and Juliane Seyfarth were only slightly further ahead in 18th and 19th. Agnes Reisch finished 29th after China's Qi Liu missed her second attempt and finished 30th.
Selina Freitag and Luisa Görlich were eliminated in 31st and 32nd place after the first round. Canada's Nicole Maurer, who, like her teammates Loutitt and Abigail Strate (12th), waited for her equipment until yesterday, was 33rd after just one jump. The same was also true for the Swiss duo of Emely Torazza and Sina Arnet in 36th and 38th place.
