Hosts Norway claimed gold in the Women’s Normal Hill Team event on the second day of the Ski Jumping competition at the 2025 FIS World Nordic Ski Championships in Trondheim. The home favorites led from start to finish to claim the title ahead of Austria and Germany.

The Norwegian quartet of Anna Odine Strøm, Ingvild Synnøve Midtskogen, Heidi Dyhre Traaserud and Eirin Maria Kvandal achieved a combined total of 904.5 points from their eight jumps across two rounds to finish 19.4 points clear of 2021 champions Austria and 58.0 points ahead of two-time champions Germany (2019, 2023).

It's Norway's first World title in the team event after landing a bronze medal in all three previous women's team competitions at the Nordic World Ski Championships.

"We haven't done this before", Strom said. "We've been working towards this for so many years. It's incredible to make it happen."

The gold was extra special considering Norway has been plagued by injuries recently, including those of Thea Minyan Bjoerseth, Silje Opseth and Kjersti Graesli.

World team gold was the main target for Norway this season

With gold, the Norwegians realised their ‘dream’ of the 2024/25 FIS Ski Jumping season.

Just after Eirin Maria Kvandal landed the fourth and final jump for Norway in the second round, the big celebrations began. Kvandal screamed, jumped and partied with her teammates. She knew they had done enough to claim victory on home snow.

Stroem, who was the first jumper in both rounds, could barely believe what just happened.

“It was really exciting”, Stroem admitted. “This was our main team target for the season. Our dream. It’s amazing to actually achieve it”, she added. “We’re so happy we managed to do it. It was a great team performance. Everyone did really well.”

Teammate Midstkogen (17) was overwhelmed after claiming victory with her Norwegian teammates. "I don't really know what to say", she said just after the competition ended. "I never expected this. It was the craziest experience I've ever had."

Norway on top in both rounds

The Normal Hill Women’s Team event is a relatively new event as it debuted on the World stage in 2019. Twelve teams of four jumpers all perform one jump in the first round, with the scores added together. The top eight teams qualify for the second and final round.

On home snow, the Norwegian team topped the first round with 445.3 points to take a minor advantage of 5.6 points over Germany and 8.9 points over Austria.

Supported by the home crowd, the team managed to extend that advantage in the second and final round. "It (the home support) helped us a lot. They were so loud in cheering, we heard them so well", Stroem said. "There were so many people. It was lovely to jump here and to actually do it (to win). It was great.”

'Special' silver for Austria

Austria, with Eva Pinkelnig, Jacquieline Seifriedsberger, Julia Muelbacher and Lisa Eder, secured the silver in Trondheim (885.1 points).

The Austrians, who sat in third after the first round, moved up from third to second following a strong second round. "Winning a World Championship medal is always something special", Pinkelnig said.

It's Pinkelnig's third team silver medal at the World Championships after being part of the silver medal winning teams in both 2019 and 2023. "The fact that we won silver shows how strong our team is, because our line-up was different compared to two years ago. Sara Marita Kramer is at home due to illness and we still managed to win the medal today."

Germans Selina Freitag, Katharina Schmid, Juliane Seyfarth and Agnes Reisch rounded out the podium in Trondheim with a bronze (846.5).

It's Freitag's second medal of the week after claiming individual silver on Friday. "I think we all did really well today", Freitag said.

Slovenia, with 2025 World Normal Hill champion Nika Prevc, finished in fourth (792.9 points). Japan landed in fifth (756.2 points).
