Prevc ends stunning season with record-equaling win
Mar 21, 2025·Ski JumpingWorld champion and Crystal Globe winner Nika Prevc rounded off the best season of her young career with a second successive victory in Lahti (FIN) and a win which helped her equal three historic ski jumping records.
The Slovenian, who claimed her ninth World Cup win in a row on Thursday, was able to level two landmark tallies on the women’s side of the sport by attaining her 10th consecutive win and 15th of the season, which were both set by Sara Takanashi in 2016.
Prevc led by an massive 21 points from Selina Freitag (GER) after the opening round at the Lahti Ski Games and rounded off her 2024/25 campaign a jump of 133.5m, which saw her attain an overall points haul of 328.8pts.
An astounding winning margin of 51.5 points also saw her equal Maren Lundby’s record of 19 women’s World Cup podium finishes in a single season, which she set in 2018/19.
Selina Freitag (GER) finished second to Prevc for the eighth time in 10 races, including twice at the World Championships earlier this month, while Ema Klinec (SLO) was third.
“Like the whole season this was another unforgettable day,” said Prevc, who defended the overall World Cup title she won for the first time in the 2023/24 season, by 640 points.
“There is a lot of moments I could think of (as favourites) and they are all really special to me, but I think that will be Ski Flying in Vikersund (where Prevc) set the World record.
After Prevc (1933) and Freitag (1293), Germany's Katharina Schmid (1201) took third in the overall World Cup standings, with Eirin Maria Kvandal of Norway (1026) fourth and Austria's Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (978) fifth.
"Looking at the whole season, Nika was another another level, so I'm talking myself up a bit to say that I'm the best in the other league," Freitag told FIS.
"I'm happy about second place in the standings and showing a lot more consistency."
Schmid who made a strong start to the season before a challening end to her individual campaign, was still proud to claim third place overall after placing fifth in the final event of the season.
"I am very satisfied as my jumps are getting better again and although I had some tough results I am happy with the strong start and the way the season has finished with my jumping," Schmid told FIS.
Prevc won her first World Cup of event of the 2024/25 season on the opening weekend in Lillehammer (NOR) before collecting two wins in both December and January.
Since that latter success in Zao (JPN) through to the latest Lahti double the Slovenian has gone undefeated across individual World Cup and World Championship events.
“Completely unbeatable and in all areas of ski jumping,” said Slovenia’s four-time World medalist turned analyst Jernj Damjan.
“Her take-off, flight, landing are just amazing and now everyone has to look strong and hard at themselves and try to find their mistakes to try and get closer to her because I think she will only get better of the summer.
Damjan continues; “From last season we’re used to Nika being on top, but no-one from my point of view expected her to be that dominant, who has pushed women’s ski jumping to a higher level and showed what women are capable of.
“I think all nations will be looking at how they can get as close as possible.”
