Italy's Lara Malsiner won the overall standings in the FIS GP 2024 in Klingenthal (GER) on Saturday. The 24-year-old's 15th place in the day's rankings was enough to secure her overall lead ahead of her team-mate Annika Sieff and Japan's Sara Takanashi.

Katharina Schmid (GER) won the competition in Klingenthal ahead of Norway's Eirin Maria Kvandal and Yuki Ito from Japan, much to the delight of the numerous spectators. Internationale de Ski) until 26 May 2022 when the name was changed to include snowboard.

“It's something very special to win in Klingenthal. Also because it was my first competition this summer and we didn't know exactly what my form was really worth in international comparison.

This success will certainly be a good indicator for the coming winter season and after this result I hope even more that I can have a better season than last winter,” explained Katharina Schmid after her success on the day.

Eirin Maria Kvandal was still in the lead after the first round, but Kvandal landed too early in the second jump after her coach shortened the inrun. Kvandal jumped 126 meters, which was well below the 95% distance for which the Norwegian would have received bonus points.

Schmid's victory was therefore clear in the end with a 13-point lead over Kvandal. Yuki Ito finished 4.8 points behind Kvandal in 3rd place.

Thea Minyan Bjoerseth and local hero Selina Freitag narrowly missed out on the day's podium in fourth and fifth place. Nozomi Maruyama (JPN), Jacqueline Seifriedsberger (AUT) and Canada's Abigail Strate took 6th - 8th place.

Lara Malsiner and teammate Annika Sieff secured an Italian double victory in the overall Grand Prix rankings for the summer of 2024.

Malsiner celebrated the biggest success of her career with the overall victory (254 points). The athlete from Val Gardena and her teammates were correspondingly exuberant about her victory.

“I'm a bit speechless, I don't know what to say. I am very, very happy. At the beginning of the summer I would never have dared to dream of winning the Grand Prix, summer is not really my good competition season. I'm always better in the winter and I hope it stays that way next winter.

This victory means a lot to me, I am very positive about the future and with this double victory we have also received something of a confirmation of our good and hard work in the team,” said a delighted Malsiner, who has been training with Team Italy since this summer under the direction of the two coaches Harry Rodlauer and Romed Moroder.

For the women, a mixed team competition together with the best men is on the program on Sunday. The start time is at 14:45.
