Daniel Tschofenig has won the first FIS Grand Prix of the weekend in Hinzenbach (AUT). Tschofenig came out on top ahead of Andreas Wellinger (GER) and Jan Hoerl (AUT). The drama of the day was caused by the Italian Alex Insam, who was in the lead in the Grand Prix. Insam had a very weak first jump and missed out on the final of the top 30.

“To get off to such a great start in my first competition of the season is brilliant. That wasn't really on the cards beforehand. There were always some good jumps in training, but the consistency was a bit lacking. It was all the better today, which makes me really happy. These are simply the days when everything comes together,” explained the day's winner Tschofenig, who took a clear victory at his first start this summer. Daniel Tschofenig, who jumped in top form, had a clear lead of 13.6 points over second-placed Andreas Wellinge. Wellinger, for his part, had a 6.1-point lead over third-placed Jan Hoerl.

“I definitely enjoyed it and I'm happy about the podium finish here in Hinzenbach, I was fourth last year. It looks like we worked really well in the summer. Ski jumping is an outdoor sport and I think I made the best of the difficult conditions today,” said Hoerl.

Two top stars followed behind the top three in fourth and fifth place with Karl Geiger and Stefan Kraft.

Anze Lanisek (SLO), the young Austrian Stephan Embacher, Pius Paschke (GER), Dawid Kubacki (POL) and Roman Koudelka (CZE) completed the top 10 of Saturday's competition.

Insam loses overall Grand Prix lead early on.
The Italian Alex Insam, who was leading the overall standings of the FIS Grand Prix, was able to bury all hopes of another day in yellow after the first run: Insam landed far too early after just 74.5 meters, placing him 49th and last among the athletes in the overall standings. Only the disqualified Oscar Westerheim from Norway in 50th place finished behind Insam.

Insam, who had started the competition with high expectations, was suitably miffed after his completely unsuccessful jump.

However, Insam's dream of winning the Grand Prix is not yet over. The Italian is only 5 points (273 - 278 points) behind the new overall leader Pawel Wasek (16th place today) from Poland. Stefan Kraft from Austria is in third place in the overall Grand Prix standings with 245 points.

The competition in Hinzenbach tomorrow (starting at 14:00) and then the final in Klingenthal next Saturday promises to be exciting once again.
